I need simple software advice. Please leave all advice in the comments. Thank You. I know whom to ask. Kossack's know everything!

I am a computer illiterate. Probably, maybe a 1st grader and I don't speak the language at all.

Now; I really know, what it's like to be in a strange place and not understand what people are talking about.

I always need a software technical support service.

I have a Teckie friend who set up and maintained my software for years. But he goes away a lot working.

A couple of weeks ago, I got this message, You're using an older version of Mozilla Firefox that we'll soon stop supporting (I'm on version 25.1). Please update your browser to the latest version

Usually I ignore messages like this because my Teckie friend said he has all the updates set on automatic. Don't update or download anything that you don't know, was his advice.

For some reason I forgot, and I clicked the update. I saw this company online. They said they could fix the problem. Only their solution was to reset my Firefox to an older, unsupported version. I'm calling them back before my 30 day money back guarantee runs out next week, but I wanted to ask everyone's advice. Because I have no clue.

GuruAid Facebook Page.

The problem was/is: when I upgraded Firefox to the 37.2 version, my videos stopped loading correctly and changed formatting. ie no enlarge button on the diary page,

No bottom button with enlarge, youtube, volume icons being visible.
Also the sound has been going in and out on Firefox. Not on Chrome I don't think.
The video works. The title is visible, the red start button and arrow are visible, but not the cover picture that shows before and after a video is played.

I have handicapped colors on Firefox. Black background with white print.

I used to have cataracts and the white/tan backgrounds blinded me. I had them removed last year.

I still like the black background it's easier on the eyes.

I know it's not the color background that's keeping the video picture from showing, because the software technicians restored an older version of Firefox and the videos work perfectly again.

The software technicans said it's ok to be on an older version of Firefox.

What does it mean that not updating can be a security risk?

From what I've read in the Firefox Help Section (and you know I read a lot of it) many people don't like the newer versions of Firefox formatting and don't update to the latest version.

So I asked the technician does this mean people can hack my bank transactions or see my passwords. He said, it's just about cookies, that kind of stuff. No they couldn't see my bank records or passwords.

I wrote this diary; to ask you all, do i need to update, to the latest version of Firefox?

What do you all do? Please respond in the comments.

I try to learn a little. Tutorial Dear Web User: Please Upgrade Your Browser
Old browsers (especially Internet Explorer versions 6, 7, and 8) are less stable, and much more vulnerable to viruses, spyware, malware, and other security issues.

Those are obviously big problems to be concerned about—especially for people who shop online. I do shop online. So security alone is a very good reason to upgrade. But there’s more to it than that.

Without the most up-to-date version of your browser, you’ll still be able to watch YouTube videos, (but you may have problems using YouTube’s newer features).  I don't use any fancy new stuff and now have this software technical support 24/7 for the next year so this part is ok with me

Which I read in Firefox Help section, (I think), that it's a bug.

That's what the tech guy said. He said when I updated to the new version of Firefox, was corrupt (meaning bugs).

So he restored it back, on the old version. The technician said this was ok to do.

It makes sense about it being the Firefox. Actually they tested everything else.

It was, right after I updated Firefox that my videos stopped loading correctly.

The GuruAid Technicans were all so nice. They made a painful situation (me not knowing the words to explain, much easier.

This company GuruAid's Technicians spent at least 15 hours over 3 days last weekend trying to find out why my youtube is not playing properly in mozilla firefox and google chrome a little bit too.

Even while having to explain my problem was stressful; when I don't know what anything, is called, I almost had a good time talking to them all. I learned some new words and observed a lot watching them work.

It reminds of when I was 25 and went to Ireland with my Mother.

We went over to what is called the Aran Islands, on a ferry boat.

All the way over a bunch of young guys bought me a Guiness Dark Ale and we drank and talked.

It only took one and I took a nap the rest of the ride. Nice young men. Same with the GuruAid technicians. They do work hard. Very hard.

Should this software support tech co, be able to fix my update/youtube problem?

Change one word from the Robert Burns poem "Parcel o’ Rogues" and it is moved from 18th century Scotland to today. The Scottish nobles are now our congress critters.
Just a thought while listening to Steeleye Span yesterday.

Fareweel to a' our Scottish fame,
Fareweel our ancient glory;
Fareweel ev'n to the Scottish name,
Sae fam'd in martial story.
Now Sark rins over Solway sands,
An' Tweed rins to the ocean,
To mark where England's province stands-
Such a parcel of rogues in a nation!

What force or guile could not subdue,
Thro' many warlike ages,
Is wrought now by a coward few,
For hireling traitor's wages.
The English steel we could disdain,
Secure in valour's station;
But English gold has been our bane -
Such a parcel of rogues in a nation!

O would, ere I had seen the day
That Treason thus could sell us,
My auld grey head had lien in clay,
Wi' Bruce and loyal Wallace!
But pith and power, till my last hour,
I'll mak this declaration;
We're bought and sold for English gold-
Such a parcel of rogues in a nation![

From Solidarity: "A Visit to Joe Hill" by Elizabeth Gurley Flynn

Elizabeth Gurley Flynn, 1915, with Name
On the front page of yesterday's edition of Solidarity we find an account authored by Elizabeth Gurley Flynn of her visit with FW Joe Hill who is now buried alive in the Salt Lake County Jail. The Rebel Song writer has been convicted of murder on purely circumstantial evidence and is under sentence of death. Miss Flynn stopped over in Salt Lake City on her way to California. She was allowed a one hour visit with Hill on May 6th.

Miss Flynn describes meeting Joe Hill:

When he came to us he was guarded on all sides by deputies, he came with a smile and a cheery greeting, with the clear eyed look of one who cannot be crushed. He is tall, good looking, but naturally thin after sixteen months in a dark narrow cell, with a corridor and another row of cells between him and daylight, and nourished by the soup and bean diet of a prison.
A Prisoner of the Class War

Miss Flynn further states:

He's a true soldier in the army of labor, philosophically accepting the status of a prisoner of war and the possibility of death.
And she asks of us:
Shall we fellow workers accept it with him so lightly?
Funds for the Defense Campaign are low, and Gurley Flynn urges that donations be made and made quickly in order to save the life of Fellow Worker Joe Hill.

Right now all entranceways to Terminal 5 in the Port of Seattle are blocked in protest of Shell's plans to drill in the Arctic.  Hundred of people converged on the terminal around 7:am this morning.  It is the top news event on local TV channels.
“Everyone is out here today, we have scientists, teachers and city councilmembers risking arrest because they understand the severity of this moment,” said Sarra Tekola a student with Divest University of Washington who recently won a vote to divest their school’s endowment from Coal. “Climate change isn't a polar bear issue it's a human rights issue, climate change displaces people from their countries, 40 years ago desertification kicked my father out of his country in Ethiopia and it's going to get worse. This is our lunch counter to sit on, this is our history to be made, we hold the world in our hands.”
A loose network of several dozen groups calling themselves the sHell No! Action Council (SNAC) organized today’s action. SNAC has focused their opposition to Arctic Drilling on the impacts of Global Warming on the impacts on peoples in the Global South and indigenous communities.

They say, write what you know! So here I am.

When Smoking Marijuana, (or other smoke-able herbs)-Please Do Not Use a butane lighter. They're for cigarettes.

Butane lighters are not meant to be used with a fine, light, easy to combust smoke-able like cannabis. You're sucking in a ton of butane gas, by lighting up with it. Use Matches! (Whether your using, a pipe or joint and even some vaporizer pens).

Miley Cyrus? Really?

photo prism_zpsdmci5cay.jpgPerhaps I should start off with a personal note.  When I was living in Arkansas after my transition, I used to run a LGBT group out of my home:  Conway Prism.  Although the group was mainly advertised as a gay-friendly atmosphere, we were open to anyone who wanted to attend and respect everyone else who was there.  Someone once ask me what the point of it was.  My response was that I wanted everyone to become a member.

photo Cyrus_zpskxfojncb.jpgIt appears that philosophy may undergo some testing.

A week ago, Cyrus announced the beginning of her Happy Hippie Foundation, which is designed to help homeless and other at risk LGBT youth.

At the event, Cyrus also announced that not all of her past relationships have been heterosexual...and that she sees herself as being "gender fluid."
