If people thought an emergency financial manager being placed in Benton Harbor, with concerns about a takeover of a public park are cause for national concern, wake up and understand an EFM is probably coming to Detroit.
In an April 29 article in the Detroit Free Press, Mayor Dave Bing said he will REQUEST a state appointed EFM IF if the city's 48 employee unions do not make health care concessions, and if the tax for income and utilities is not extended, even though the city no longer qualifies for the special tax, because or census numbers dropping below 750,000. This is coming from a man who stated earlier that he did not want an EFM.
More than likely, the EFM will be Bing himself. In other words, give me what I want through negotiations, or I will just do it anyway.
If this happens, be sure to watch the jewels of the city: the pension fund, the water dept., and Bells Isle, one of the most beautiful public attractions in Detroit.
If I may connect some dots, I think I can start to see the big picture. Yesterday, the State House narrowly passed Snyder's proposed budget to tax senior pensions, give 1.7 billion in tax cuts to business. This has merely shifted the tax burden from the rich to the poor. It still has to pass the senate, which has a republican majority.
Include in this picture, a visit from Tim Geithner, who spoke to the Detroit Economic Club, and afterward, met with the big business leaders and politicians in the state.
They are preparing a recipe, and are about to serve up a meal that will be harmful to us, but we shall be forced to eat.
Please help fight back. From what I have heard, the language for the recall petition submitted by Michigan Citizen's United should be approved soon. We must arm ourselves with these petitions, and get 900,000 signatures within 90 days, and get this crook out of office. We can do it. We have to.
