if they were smart repubs would get this issue out of the way by raising the minimum wage (to a level below the $9), thankfully they have not demonstrated much political astuteness lately and this could become a great issue to run on in 2014. perhaps so much so, to overcome the est 7% gerrymandering advantage the gop currently enjoys

    •  Respectfully, I think that this is a goal that is (0+ / 0-)

best (hopefully) achieved BEFORE the midterms.

For several reason, but due to lack of time, I'll just mention one, for now.

Beginning in 2014, millions of folks will be expected to shell out some amount of money each month, that they haven't been spending.  Remember, the cut-off for help is in the "working class" range, so some of those folks above 400% of FPL, will be put under substantial financial strain.  [Those just above the cut-off.]

I imagine that this is one reason that the Administration is getting around to this issue.  They know this, too.

CBO analysis has already shown that as many as 30 million folks will go uninsured for years after implementation, mostly due to the inability to afford the premiums.  (Brookings sets middle class at between sixty and sixty-five thousand dollars annual household income).

Therefore, it is to the advantage of the Administration to help folks increase their income, in order to increase participation in the Health Exchanges.  [Also, not doing so, may increase the amount of resentment felt by the "uninsureds," due to their increased financial hardship.]
