Posting a Diary Entry

Daily Kos welcomes blog articles from readers, known as diaries. The Intro section to a diary should be about three paragraphs long, and is required. The body section is optional, as is the poll, which can have 1 to 15 choices. Descriptive tags are also required to help others find your diary by subject; please don't use "cute" tags.

When you're ready, scroll down below the tags and click Save & Preview. You can edit your diary after it's published by clicking Edit Diary. Polls cannot be edited once they are published.

If this is your first time creating a Diary since the Ajax upgrade, before you enter any text below, please press Ctrl-F5 and then hold down the Shift Key and press your browser's Reload button to refresh its cache with the new script files.

ATTENTION: READ THE RULES.

  1. One diary daily maximum.
  2. Substantive diaries only. If you don't have at least three solid, original paragraphs, you should probably post a comment in an Open Thread.
  3. No repetitive diaries. Take a moment to ensure your topic hasn't been blogged (you can search for Stories and Diaries that already cover this topic), though fresh original analysis is always welcome.
  4. Use the "Body" textbox if your diary entry is longer than three paragraphs.
  5. Any images in your posts must be hosted by an approved image hosting service (one of: imageshack.us, photobucket.com, flickr.com, smugmug.com, allyoucanupload.com, picturetrail.com, mac.com, webshots.com, editgrid.com).
  6. Copying and pasting entire copyrighted works is prohibited. If you do quote something, keep it brief, always provide a link to the original source, and use the <blockquote> tags to clearly identify the quoted material. Violating this rule is grounds for immediate banning.
  7. Be civil. Do not "call out" other users by name in diary titles. Do not use profanity in diary titles. Don't write diaries whose main purpose is to deliberately inflame.

Please begin with an informative title:

It's as though the current batch of Michigan legislators haven't lived in this state for any length of time.

Like they were all imported from some bubbling Koch-born clone tank and dropped here to get a job as a Michigan legislator. Because any actual Michigan born and raised Governor or congressperson would know the reason for Michigan's economic volatility; Why we consistently rank among the states with the highest unemployment during a lukewarm or struggling national economy.

It's not that hard to figure out if you've lived here for generations, or your whole life, or a week. Or maybe five minutes and paid any damn attention at all.

We're overly dependent on ONE industry (cars) and three companies (Ford, GM, and Chrysler).  When they're doing bad, our state does bad. When they do okay, our state does okay.

It's not taxes. Or UNIONS. Or gay marriage. Or abortions. Or even education. Or feral swine or falling water levels, invasive species, tectonic drift, the price of cococa, the sweet smell of Grand Traverse cherry wine. Futz with those things all you want, it's not going to mean jack shit for Michigan's economy. Because THEY'RE NOT THE PROBLEM.

The PROBLEM is Michigan doesn't have a diverse economy. THAT's the problem. That's been the problem for the last decade. The last three decades. That's been the problem for a hundred years.

MICHIGAN doesn't have a DIVERSE ECONOMY. THAT is the PROBLEM. So today's union busting and Making Michigan a Right To Work for less state may make the Republicans glow on the inside, and I'm sure it does. But Snyder should have stuck with his previous lies...er...I mean talking point: that passing Right To Work legislation would be a distraction.

Cuz UNION stuff isn't the problem. NOT having a diverse economy is the problem. Any idiot who has been paying attention at ALL ....at ALL....I mean...AT ALL would know that. AT ALL.

My GRANDMOTHER knew that back in the 1960s when she was struggling financially to raise her five children. EVERY Michigander knows that. Hell...she could have written a part of the recently released University of Michigan economic outlook which shows that basically ALL economic gains in Michigan are from....shock! The AUTO INDUSTRY! AND NOTHING ELSE. Cuz some guy whose name rhymes with DICK SCHMEIDER and the maniacs in congress ARE DOING NOTHING to HELP our ECONOMY Diversify and have left us exactly where we've been forever. Next economic storm to hit and we're back on our asses because these idiots DID NOTHING.

The University of Michigan’s 60th annual economic outlook conference concluded Friday afternoon with a relatively cheery outlook for the state’s economy.

UM economists George Fulton, Joan Crary and Donald Grimes predicted the state will add almost 50,000 jobs in 2013 and 61,000 jobs in 2014.

Most of the job gains will be in a resurgent automotive industry, meaning the state still hasn’t made major moves in diversifying its economy. But job gains are predicted in high-wage sectors like professional, business and scientific services as well.

So who the hell are these jackasses running our State? Cuz they're not Michiganders.
