why are they running ads in North Carolina to encourage voters to call Kay Hagen.
Ad starts with a nice looking doctor, Dr. Mark J. Cuffe, Board Certified Neurosurgeon saying the following:
More below the fold
How can Obama's plan cover over 50 million new patients without any new doctors, it can't. It will hurt our seniors and Medicare as we know it. Ration coverage and care. Limit life saving medicens. Impose long delays for cancer treatment and other life saving surgery. It is happening in England and Canada, don't let it happen here.
Voice over "Tell Congress to Protect healthcare." and it flashes a phone number. "Paid for by the League of American Voters" Also in small print on the Youtube but not in the commercial as it aired here in NC, dickmorris reports.
BTW, Googling Dr. Mark J. Cuffe doesn't bring up much. He hasn't really donated to any political person or group except in 2004.
Watch the ad:
So who are these League of American Voters? Sounds like the League of Women Voters, a pretty good non-partisian clearing house. Well the League of American Voters has this as their Mission Statement:
The League of American Voters is a national non-partisan and 501(c)4 non-profit organization created to keep our elected officials in Washington and across the nation accountable. In past decades, Americans could rely on the media and political parties to serve as checks against the growth of government, corruption and incompetence. The League of American voters seeks to make the nation's democratic system stronger and more vibrant by demanding greater accountability from our officials.

So I did some research. The LOAV is founded by Bob Adams who ran unsucessfully for the Senate from West Virginia. He is the former press assistant to J. C. Watts, Jr from Oklahoma. That doesn't tell me very much so I dug into the two quotes that were textboxed. BINGO.. that is where the real information is hidden.
The ad had two text box quotes "Medicare as we know it will no longer exist" attributed to the heritage.org 7/16/09 (obvious) and then the comment about the rationing of care in England and Canada had City Journal 6/07 as the source. Knowledgeable people here will know that the City Journal is a publication of The Manhattan Institute, whose Chairman of the Board is NONE OTHER than Paul E. Singer, of Swiftboater Fame. So a Swiftboater by any other name is still a Swiftboater.
It is garbage like this that runs twice an hour during the local news broadcast that makes me do a little googling to find out who these people are and why they are spending millions. I am writing my local newspaper with a shortened version of this track to show that the Swiftboaters are alive and well just using another alias.
