Drilling down on cuts to spur Economic Development and the way forward
Roselle, IL— It is the age old question in politics after a series of bright eyed ideas: how do we pay for it. Democratic Candidate Terrell Barnes in County Board 6 proposes two consolidations within County Government that would lead to 13.5 million dollars over 10 years to be rededicated toward countywide economic development efforts.
Candidate Barnes arrives at this number by eliminating and consolidating the County Recorder’s office with the County Clerks office. Based on the consolidation and the elimination of duplication a 30% savings in the operating budget as he believes could be realized. Additionally, by combining the functions of the County Coroner’s office into the health department and moving toward a medical examiner much like Cook County did in the 1970’s, it’s his belief that a 50% savings in the operating budget could be realized.
Taken together, he argues this would equal almost a 1.4 million dollar in savings per year and over 10 years leads to 14 million dollars that could be rededicated for economic development and job growth. Candidate Barnes feels that a grown up conversation needs to take place on the issue of economic development and job growth and how we pay for it.
These policies are designed to bring the county in line with the economic realities that face our community and the need to find the money in the existing budget to re-invest and build communities. Once elected candidate Barnes will push these proposals and if it goes nowhere in the 1st year of his first term, he will seek to have these departments eliminated through ballot referendum in 2014.
