We need to keep growing this movement against Rush. No letting things blow over as he is hoping will happen. Just yesterday I enrolled a few local MoveOn members to join in my calls. Instead of dying down, the movement in Eugene is snowballing.
This morning he is whining about the reported number of lost sponsors, claiming that most were local and that they haven't stopped advertising on the stations, just his show.
SO, what this means is that we need to start pressuring sponsors to remove their advertising dollars from the stations which carry Rush. Asking that they just keep ads off his show isn't enough. I'm sure his local affiliates will LOVE this.
Station break now, time to ID more advertisers!
11:36 AM PT: Here is my email to KPNW:
Just as in The Wizard of Oz, the curtain has been drawn back on Rush Limbaugh this past week. The magnitude of this controversy has revealed to many Americans, including many of Rush's loyal listeners, just how dishonestly Mr. Limbaugh operates. Ms. Fluke's testimony before Congress contained not one word about her sex life, it was purely about women's preventive health care and a friend who lost an ovary due to the cost of hormone therapy, yet here are some of the things Mr. Limbaugh said about her:
"A Georgetown co-ed told Rep. Nancy Pelosi's hearing that the women in her law school program are having so much sex that they're going broke, so you and I should pay for their birth control."
"a woman who is happily presenting herself as an immoral, baseless, no-purpose-to-her-life woman."
"It was Sandra Fluke who said that she was having so much sex, she can't afford it...By her own admission, in her own words, Sandra Fluke is having so much sex that she can't afford it."
And in addition to these lies and his slanderous use of the term prostitute to describe Ms. Fluke, and in addition to his creepy-sick demand that she post sex videos for his viewing pleasure, he attacked her as a pre-teen:
"Ms. Fluke, who bought your condoms in junior high? Who bought your condoms in the sixth grade, or your contraception?"
He also had this to say:
I'm not making any of it up. You put all the details that she brought forth. She's struggling financially. Why? Just quote her. Her sex life is active and she's having sex so frequently that she can't afford all the birth control pills that she needs. Is what she's saying. You put that in the story and it changes for everybody. [emphasis added]
Actually Rush was making ALL of it up, and by his own admission makes clear that the stuff he made up changes the story for everyone.
It has never been more clear to more people that Rush Limbaugh is nothing more than a lying propagandist with no integrity, no sense of human decency, and who will stoop to trying to destroy a young woman simply because she was brave enough to state things that Rush doesn't want heard. Your continuing to inflict this hateful and divisive speech on our local community is an affront to decency and only serves to pollute our public discourse. Please cancel this program.
Thank You,
