So I found out late last night that a progressive friend of mine in rural North Carolina did not have a ride to the polls before they closed today.
I called the nearest OFA offices in Boone, NC. No one picked up and two of the numbers on the website are actually incorrect. I got some poor confused gentleman, and a residence. The one phone number I thought was correct had a full mailbox. I left a message with the Winston Salem OFA office, and they're packed, I couldn't get through.
So I did some research and I got in touch with the chair of the Allegheny County Democratic Party. They were on it. They looked up the name in the voter rolls, found the precinct, and made sure my picked up my friend had a ride to the polls. They got back a few minutes ago, and sent me this text:
"I voted. Life is grand."
So hell yeah, Allegheny County Democrats! When the local OFA office was in a bit of of a shambles, the local folks stepped up and got the job done.
And I made sure that one more voice was heard in North Carolina.
And now I myself am going to walk to my polling station and cast my vote to re-elect our president.
Shameless plug, I will be on Netroots Radio tonight, broadcasting from the Democratic Leadership for the 21st century Election Night Bash in New York City.
3:01 PM PT: Unfortunately, I will NOT be able to make it to the DL21C party tonight.
