An unusual quartet of law enforcement agencies -- the FBI, the NYC Police Department, the State Police, and the Saratoga County Sheriff's Department -- raided a mobile home in Malta Wednesday, taking away guns and bags of papers but making no arrests.
And no comment. So what follows is inquiring-minds speculation.
It's extremely rare for NYC cops to be involved in anything 170 miles or so outside the city, but the NYPD does have a terrorism-focused intelligence division. Is that why the city cops were there?
It's also rare for the FBI to be involved in relatively penny-ante crimes like illegal gun possession. What were they really doing there?
The mobile home is owned by Sadie Class; not much about her on the Google, other than that she is a supporter of the Universal Life Church, which "ordains" almost anyone as a "minister" and many of those "ministers" attempt to avoid taxes.
Also living there are two men, one of whom is evidently active duty Navy, and two children. An unorthodox living arrangement perhaps, but not generally worthy of such law enforcement attention.
A sign in a window of the home read, ""No trespassing. Violators will be shot. Survivors will be shot again." Unusual, though legal, but it suggests a kind of militia/gun-nut extremism.
There have been no follow-up stories in the local media, and this may be all-smoke-no-fire.
Or it may be some militia/Oath Keeper types who did something illegal in their anti-government zeal.
Wouldn't be the first time, and won't be the last.
