I have to admit I just don't understand it. Why are so many of my regular and/or FB friends so surprised that ISIS is such a brutal, evil enemy?
Many of them, who were friends long before FB, fully supported VP Cheney's very personally profitable war in Iraq (I'm not trying to be sarcastic, but rather stating who was really in charge at the time.) And while they seemed to express sincere concern with losing over 4000 good Americans, I saw little concern about the war leading to the deaths of over 100,000 Iraqi citizens. Or when "our side" beat and tortured Iraqi prisoners to death, and then took pictures of Americans posing with and laughing at their obviously brutalized corpses.
These same friends now all of a sudden seem surprised that we are again facing such fierce and blood thirsty enemy in Iraq. And after we intentionally destroyed Iraq's army, some of us are still pretending like we don't know why the nation can't defend themselves!
More recently my FB friends did not seem upset when they heard that we torture thousands of our own citizens every day, right here in America's prisons, by locking them in solitary 24/7 (please do not believe that stuff about 23 out of 24 hours, for many prisoners it is really 24 hours a day, for weeks, months and yes, even years.)
I did not see any outraged posts from many of these same friends when members of our own police did things like choke a man to death for selling cigarettes, and shoot another man for daring to touch a BB gun in Walmart.
The same friends who claim that our own President Obama is some kind of a odd half-tyrant/half-weakling hybrid Muslim "monster", fully supported Bush even after he lost the popular vote in 2000 and then haplessly missed the chance to prevent a few terrorists from attacking us here in the US and kill thousands. Including many in the Pentagon! That fact never seemed to bother them; that Bush was so weak at defending our country that a very few evil men were able to attack the very center of our very massive and extra-ordinarily expensive military!
Instead of attacking Bush for losing over 3000 Americans right here on our soil, my friends have apparently saved all their selective outrage for our democratically elected President because two members of the so-called "liberal" media were beheaded somewhere in Iraq or Syria.
And even after President Obama killed Bin Laden, many of my very dear friends still voted for a guy who mocked 47% of us as lazy!
Of course the be-headings are horrible. And of course we should be outraged and saddened. But we should not be a bit surprised. We need to lead by showing higher principals to the world. So I for one, am very proud, and happy, that our President Obama is looking carefully before he leaps back into the quicksand of Iraq.
