The down side?
There IS a big down side in all this.
And I live it.
Dont get this wrong.
I do support this raising the minimum wage.
And I know it actually creates jobs.
But...........
Conservatives, republicons, independents, all
have slashed food stamps, unemployment AND;
Social Security. I am disabled and yes the prices on EVERYTHING have gone up, everything except what I get. 941 per month. I realize that in the eyes of many, my work history of over 33 years before I was disabled ON THE JOB, does not mean much. I havent done shit for 'them' lately. But I did serve this country and worked for over 33 years. Everyone who is thinking about ever retiring, should rethink it. Because you dont get to travel the country on 941 per month. You rarely even get to travel your neighborhood.
Think about what our millions of retirees must think of this great country. As they see more and more takers be called job creators. As they see what their taxes and hard work paid for, being sold off to the highest bidder.
Now they want to privatize the highways. Its another way to cut taxes, they say. But they wont cut them on workers or the poor. They will raise the payroll tax to offset any reduction in the corporate tax. And then it will cost more to drive on their private highways. And they wont accept any responsibility for any accidents or road repair that is needed. Because they NEVER do.
I cant help but think of my fathers generation; who fought and died in WW2 and the people who lived during the depression and started the WPA. And built the national park system, the highways and many of the roads we drive on today. They planted trees in the midwest and south to prevent another dust bowl.
And now to cut taxes, Texas is taking the paving off many of its roads. And they will instead use gravel and sand. It saves on the maintenance.
And they want to sell the national parks, to save money. And the national monuments.
What is next?
