Nancy Pelosi and Steve Israel, seeing their promises of DOOOOM come true on Election Night 2014.
Time to do some
post-mortems:
After three straight lost elections, resulting in at least six straight years in the minority, Rep. Nancy Pelosi is facing her most uneasy moments in her 12 years as the top Democrat in the House. Reeling from their Election Day drubbing, House Democrats are still wondering exactly what went wrong and what they need to do to fix it.
What went wrong? The GOP has aggressively gerrymandered the House because Democrats didn't turn out and vote in 2010, and then Democrats didn't turn out to vote in 2014. House Dems made gains in 2012. When Democrats voted.
Wait, maybe this has something to do with ... inspiring our people to vote?
Pelosi has asked Rep. Steve Israel (D-N.Y.) to run a new policy and messaging shop to craft a formula for returning the party to the majority.
You might remember Steve Israel from such email greatest hits as:
humiliating loss
crushing defeat
this could be the end:
devastating blow
It's over. Zero chance. Goodbye.
And my all-time favorite, two weeks before the election:
Subject: Accept Defeat
We are completely out of ideas.
So the guy that spent an entire year telling its donors about how the DCCC was going to get crushed, and then told them close to Election Day that they had no clue what they were doing and "were out of ideas" is the guy who will now have ideas about how to win? He already told us he has no ideas!
Here's an idea: Spend less time aggressively raising millions of dollars for ads that no one watches, and more time inspiring people to want to vote Democratic, and building a GOTV machine to get out our base—people who are browner, younger, and more female than Steve Israel.
And stop telling people they've lost a year before the election even happens.
