My SOTU speech for President Obama:
As an American, I believe in science. In the past our scientists have improved the quality of lives around the world with their diligent research. Polio is history; the moon has been attained; modern computers grace nearly every household and meteorologists can warn of an impending weather disaster days in advance. Smog shrouded air in CA has yielded to clear, sunny skies. All these remarkable benefits are due to modern science.
Yet, to our detriment, a faction in our political class has declared war on science. To hasten the progress of this war, industrialists who may be inconvenienced by science, have devoted vast resources to electing a Congress whose purpose is to attack ‘science’ and roll back the achievements of decades. They do this under the guise that they are working for ‘the American People’. And, inarguably, they were elected by a minuscule portion of the American people, possibly as many as 19% of the voting public, given the woeful midterm showing at the polls. This is scarcely a mandate. Congress has squandered the opportunity to serve the ‘people’ and the people know it. Hence Congress is held in very low regard. But the people need to be heard and represented. And there is a way to achieve that goal. It involves polling, which derives the desires of the public through the application of scientific data gathering.
Follow below for goals and objectives
It is easy to see through polling results what the American People want.
1. Immigration reform
2. Sensible gun control
3. Expansion of Social Security
4. Health Care (as long as it doesn’t carry my name)
5. Repeal of Citizens United
6. Banking regulations to protect consumers
7. College tuition which will not bankrupt families
8. Care for veterans injured in war and retraining as necessary
9. Living wage, collective bargaining, family leave.
10. Reproductive freedom.
11. Equal rights for all citizens, male/female, black/white, LGBTQ
12. Equal access to quality education, employment, etc.
13. A sustainable planet--clean air, water, nutritious food
14. Alternate energy--wind, solar, bio
15. Rebuilding our fractured and failing infrastructure
16. A justice system which works for ALL Americans
I will never face another campaign. I have nothing to lose by embracing the wishes of the American people as determined by scientific polling. I have noted that even polls conducted by Republicans, and their media component, Fox News, show the Congress to be far out of sync with the wishes of the public.
History will judge me. But I must believe that if I fervently serve the expressed wishes of the population, and explain at every turn why I am not representing the bogus agenda advanced by the corporate Congress, Americans may again be encouraged to return to the voting booth and support legitimate Senators and Representatives who will be truly dedicated public servants as our forefathers intended.
I pledge to work ceaselessly with any and all elected representatives, regardless of party in order to achieve these goals for our country. I have limited power to enact these changes through the office of the President. But to the extent that I can, I will. Further, I will not hesitate to veto any legislation which threatens these objectives. These are my priorities and I will speak of them at every opportunity. I hope that you, my fellow Americans, will rise to the task of electing representatives who are similarly committed to our mutual cause.
