Wow. Just wow. On the heels of news that Netanyahu's re-election campaign is hitting the skids, the story from Chicago just adds cream to the pie.
As some here know, there is a run-off election in Chicago. Current Mayor and DINO Rahm Emanuel failed to get 50%, despite numerous sTalking heads promising a clear victory last month. Jesus Chuy Garcia came in second, surprisingly close to Rahm. In third, carrying the black protest vote, was Wille Wilson, a self-made multi-millionaire who financed his own campaign.
Rahm has been courting the Willie voter ever since the election. Willie played hard to get, even after President Obama called him and asked him to toss his support to Rahm.
Here is today's Chi-Suntimes article on the result:
Willie Wilson said Thursday even the appeals of President Barack Obama could not persuade him to back Rahm Emanuel for re-election.
“I had the opportunity to meet with President Obama here several weeks ago,” Wilson said at a South Side Baptist church, flanked by Garcia and numerous supporters. “And he came up said, ‘You know, I gotta vote for my boy Rahm, and support my boy Rahm,’ but I gotta say this today: Mr. President, I’ve gotta support for my boy Chuy.”
Wilson, who held the event to make his endorsement of Garcia official — despite announcing his intentions the previous day — said that although he had taken the time to hear from Emanuel supporters, he always planned to back Garcia. He said he waited to endorse only to make sure his support was in line with the 50,000 people who voted for Wilson in the general election.
Wilson said while speaking to Emanuel about his possible endorsement the conversation was centered on two issues: the parity of city contracts in regard to minorities and re-opening some of the schools the schools that Emanuel shuttered.
If this has an impact on black voters in Chicago, the election is Rahm's to lose and Chuy's to win. Wilson does have one mark against him, however. He was a big supporter of Bruce "Teabagger" Rauner, our new ultra-conservative governator.
