This Diary posted at the Daily Kos, is an open letter to Billy O'Reilly from a mother whose son just came out as gay to her and his father, they were devastated, looked at who their son was and took extreme exception to Billy's comment and fired this letter, I spotted this Diary after it had 125 comments, the letter is powerfully angry and very well written, dear God! Any person, other than Billy, could be emotionally crushed by it's contents; she kicks the jackass' ass good!
But the responses, were sickening. On one side, oh! There were so sweet, understanding, supporting, consoling with lots and lots of loving or advice to just ignore it, you know, the typical liberal crap that makes us so beautiful, on the other side, they were sprinkled with Billy is bad, stupid, hopeless, F O'reilly, scum, or words of wisdom or scorn directed to Bill O'Reilly; really bright, like he's really going to read them or care.

I read the letter and I thought, good for you, thank you, we need to speak up, I'm sorry for what you're going through but more sorry because this pain is unnecessary. You can't know what's ahead for your son, or if you'll have any grandchildren, but your son has a lot to contribute to a possible procreation, there may be many lesbian couples who'll love to have their child have such wonderful and loving father and grandparents. Yeah, I'm a liberal so I tend to see and incorporate the positive and probable scenarios.
What got me going ballistic was, after I viewed the letter in conjunction with the comments, the very first sentence of her letter, "I don't know that you, personally, will ever read this letter." My thought was, why not? Why not in addition to offer sympathy, empathy, love, et, al to her, each one of us fires e-mails to the Fword News(?) Channel and other media entities with comments and links to the Diary, let's make noise, let's help bookwoman have her voice heard, let's make her voice come into Billy's little world. And if there is really a will, let's send it to our friends encouraging them to follow suit.
Isn't about time this harmful buffoon is stopped from spreading more of his dangerous hate and prejudice? He's on the ropes, he may bounce back, or he may not; in any event, I'm grabbing this chance and any others to try and tip the balance. Any takers?
This imbecile and the ones of his ilk, count on us Liberals to not get down to their level, they use projection when they denounce us as angry haters, it allows them to hurl their hateful obfuscation at us. And we Liberals dutifully oblige - Well, I disagree, we've been convicted and punished for uncommitted sins. For how long will we continue to take it?
Will we ever learn deep down that we're in the middle of the mother of all political battles? This guy is part of that evil structure.

Open Letter To Bill O'Reilly
February 23, 2006
To Mr. O'Reilly,
I don't know that you, personally, will ever read this letter. And it saddens me to even have to respond to the recent careless and incendiary statement you have made, in reference to Brokeback Mountain as a means of "humanizing" gays. What an outrageous statement; it's hard to believe a normal human being would think this, never mind SAY such a thing.
But if I were to have to think of the most pressing reason it is exactly because people like you have created such a firestorm of hatred and bigotry in this country, something that you broadcast loud and clear on television and radio each and every day.'
'I'm not sure how people like you go through your life, day to day. I don't know how you sleep at night.'
'You, sir, are the one who needs to be "humanized"'
After thought, did I just set up a Liberal firing squad? Well, if that's the case, let the barrage of verbiage commence...
NOTE: In case you missed it, Billy O'Reilly was named the worst person in the world for the second consecutive day in Countdown, I already sent an e-mail to Keith, alerting him to the letter with this question, Would you be interested in helping Billy O'Reilly make the trifecta as Countdown's worst person in the world? Here's an item that may help.
