If this election is about the future, then Obama is a better matchup against John McCain. Beating the Republicans is the most important thing. I had thought that Hillary would do it better. After Edwards dropped out I reconsidered.
If America is tired of the same-old and is ready for a restart, then Obama is the right candidate. If it is about experience, then McCain beats both Hillary and Obama.
I thought Edwards had the best case in November, without Clinton baggage, without the racial drag, and great policies to boot. Not happening.
Hillary: is the country moving behind her? I think she might be an effective president, like LBJ. I don't think we want the triangulation strategy again. We want a real Democrat. I love Bill, but I blame his lack of control for letting Bush in the door, and everything that followed. Arrgh! Her strength is organization, the machine, and super delegates. I smell Mondale.
Obama is black. Are we ready for that yet? Will Hispanics vote for a black over a crypto-fascist gabacho who has always been happy to see braceros? Maybe Obama can make the sale by November. He can learn some Spanish for the big show. Will the kids vote in November?
I thought the black thing would make him a fatally weak candidate. But I was turned around by the recent article in the New Yorker about Cory Booker and the new conciliatory approach to the race question. We aren't past race, but maybe Obama's civil approach is the way forward for us. Dr. King spoke truth to power, but effectively. Maybe Obama is a good successor.
