This whole re-vote push is baffling me and raising many questions about this primary. First, every candidate agrees to not slate the delegates from Florida and Michigan as those states moved up their primaries in violation of party rules. Now it seems Hillary Clinton want to scream loudly that voters are being disenfranchised.
Which begs the question, where was this fight when voters were being disenfranchised in the 2000 Florida election? Did Hillary Clinton lobby the Justice department to look into the voter irregularities in Florida given her quote vast White House experience? As a newly sworn in member of the United States Senate in 2001, did she stand up when the congressional black caucus needed one Senator for further investigation into the voter theft that went on in Florida in 2000? No Hillary Clinton was silent as the will of the people was muffled by the right-wing noise machine.
A re-vote faces a big hurdle, who can afford to shell out the cash to pay for a re-vote. Well, Hillary Clinton's rich friends have volunteered to pick up the tab. How decent of these democratic fat cats! It is amazing how these fat cats would not churn their money machines when democracy itself was really on the line in 2000. Due to their folly we have an economy in shabbles and a war without end. This re-vote thing could cost upwards of 30 million dollars.
Where was their ability to raise 30 million dollars in a hurry when we, democrats lost the damn house in 1994 and lost ground just about every year Bill Clinton/Hillary Clinton was in office? Could this money be better spent toward a 50 state strategy to spread hope? 30 Million dollars spread among 1500 candidates ( State Senate, State House, City Council, County Board, Mayor, and others) would equal 20,000 a candidate. In more better terms:
2000 dollars = 3389 mail pieces
3100 dollars = helping a local campaign meet 620 dollars a month toward the last 5 months of office rent
500 dollars= 40 pizzas for volunteers
10000 dollars = two semi pro staffers for 2 months to help in organizing
You get the point.......
Hillary Clinton and her fat cats have put themselves ahead of the party for far to long. We have a choice, is one member in the party more important than building a movement now or a future movement? The 20,000 question finances the next Al Gore, Barack Obama, John Edwards, or Hillary Clinton.
