11:30pm: That's it for me for the night. Goodnight, all.
11:26pm: Livestream:
11:18pm: Livestream: someone (sounds like Thoren) says one arrest, media team and a short time later same person says all is calm at Zuccotti. Monica says about five minutes ago she saw the police arresting an African American man. She asked the police why and they ignored her. She says they are supposed to say why if they are asked.

10:32pm: Best I can tell there are multiple groups still out marching, perhaps trying to outmaneuver the police who are deployed to the max, including helicopters and a counterterrorism unit. At least one part of the media team is beat up and in a paddy wagon. But the livestream continues right now so apparently at least one of the mobile cameras is still out there and this group seems okay. Said they made it to Wall Street. From Twitter:

9:50pm: From the livestream: They're marching again. One of the mobile cameras is with them.
9:29: From some journalists on the scene via Twitter:

9:23pm: Video of scuffles with police from citizen journalist. A number of MSM and internet journalists are on site too.
8:55pm: In this picture, the two red light poles coming up out of the ground that you see are on Wall Street. Assuming these are the same ones that I have seen, and I didn't see them anywhere else in the area, when you are standing on Broadway looking down Wall Street, the NYSE is on your right (the side of the building) and the light poles are about a block down, near where you would turn right to get to the infamous front of the NYSE building. Sometimes they block off Wall Street altogether at Broadway. Last Saturday during the day it was not blocked off -- you could walk down there.
Below is the same view in the daytime, last Saturday (assuming I'm right about the location of that picture above).
- People in the park on the livestream are saying that there have been arrests, there are rumors about a lot of arrests, that the police build up around the park is substantial and they are making recommendations for the best route for people who are still outside the park.
- Switch to camera down by Wall Street. Very clear picture. They welcome viewers who are watching this on CurrentTV. Hmm, I wonder if the anonymous person who donated computer equipment for their new media station is connected in any way...
- Camera guy says they are getting reports that police are getting very aggressive "down below". Don't know what he means by "down below".
8:38pm:
- Crowd is using the people's microphone, they're going back to y, Liberty saying "Let's go"
- Jason: "Hey everybody, we just had a little tussle with the police they pushed us around, hit us with batons, maced a few people, arrested a few" (He might have been with the group who got down got down Wall Street)
- Someone else is saying they let them all go.
- Devin comes back on the microphone, says he got some mace in the face but is okay
- Lorenzo is still down by Wall Street, says some people do not want to leave, there's a stand off with the police, he is going to stay down there with the camera
- So it looks like one camera person went back to Zuccotti (Devin?) and one (Lorenzo) stayed.
- More sirens
- Arrests (crowd asking the names, chanting "shame") at 8:48pm
8:20pm: From Livestream: There has been a march to Wall Street (or close by) and a lot of people are crowded around there. Police came in, including mounted police. Here are my notes while watching the livestream for the last half hour or so:
- Police: "get out of the street"
- Camera guy: "they're bringing the nets in so we gotta move"
- Crowd: counting down "Ten, nine, eight..."
- Crowd chants: "Let us march"
- Camera guy: "In a standoff, cordoning off more and more people, doesn't look like they're leaving because they don't think they're doing anything wrong
police talking on megaphone "ladies and gentlemen, need you to move down, let's go folks"
- Sirens
- Buses are still moving so it looks like they are not in the street
- Police keeping subway entrance clear
- Mostly blue shirts, just saw one white shirt, more sirens, lots
- Camera guy: "Police coverage is huge, setting up netting everywhere"
- Camera guy: "Some unconfirmed reports that some people got down Wall Street"
- "We do believe some people marched to Wall Street and the police are not very happy about it"
- "Getting reports that they're sending a bus"
- Crowd chanting to police: "Disobey your orders, disobey you orders..."
- Camera guy: "Police are moving. Excuse me... police are moving"
7:17pm: Vlad just came on the livestream and showed that it is still filled with people and said "People are trying to organize a march on Wall Street right now". I can now hear very loud responsive chants of "March!" Looks like they haven't had enough marching yet and might be headed out again to march on Wall Street. There are chants of "Let's occupy, Wall Street now". Vlad says that someone (couldn't catch the name) is setting on Wall Street to film/broadcast the livestream from there as they try to march down there. More chants of "Wall Street now!"
7:07pm: From Greg Mitchell:
6:55 Mike Myers in crowd, Ed Schultz says he snagged an interview. Grooovy, baby.
6:35 @MoveOn tweets: “We’ve reached Wall Street and the huge crowd is chanting: ‘The people united will never be divided!’ ” Picture here. Crowd seems to have topped all hopes… Ed Schultz just switched to do show live from park tonight. Ezra Klein live from park on Lawrence O’Donnell. Rachel?
Except they are chanting "The people, united, will never be defeated."
6:57pm: Wow, DFA really gets it. This is from an email received by gooderservice posted in this comment:
The Occupy Wall Street protest is a watershed moment.
For weeks, protesters have been camped out in Liberty Square near Wall Street.
They are marching during the day and sleeping on the street at night, facing arrest and police violence. They are gaining media attention, inspiring thousands more to join them every day in New York and in cities across the country -- and they are giving a voice to the American working class that has been attacked by big corporations and their allies in Congress.
The Occupy Wall Street protesters are standing up for us -- because of that, thousands of people across the country have joined together to send them food to keep them going.
These donations have worked. They've kept the occupation strong. But it's October in New York City and getting colder each day.
Protesters are now in immediate need of 200 sleeping bags to keep warm and keep the occupation going.
Donate $20 here to buy a sleeping bag to keep the occupation going in the cold.
Working together, we can build a movement to take back our country from corporate greed.
In solidarity,
- Gregg

5:57pm: Guardian says that Broadway is completely shut down, that "as thousands depart Foley Square there are still people arriving at the rear of the protest."

5:49pm: From the livestream: On the march.

5:38pm: From The Guardian:
5.12pm: Paul Harris says there could be as many as 15,000 on the march. More are on the way – Village Voice reports:
Willis Plummer, in a student group marching down currently at Franklin and Lafayette, reports that the police have trucks and police buses parked in the middle of the streets as seeming barricades, but that people are going around them. He says "there are about 2000 people marching down" to meet the group at Foley Square.
5.05pm: Karen McVeigh writes that Occupy Wall Street is to set up its "own media channel":
Thorin Caristo, a OWS spokesman who organizes the live streaming has just told me they will have their own media channel later tonight, thanks to a donation of computer hardware from an anonymous benefactor.
Live coverage will be available from around 8pm at livestream.com/occupywallstnyc. Caristo said: "It's exciting for us to be able to curate the content and have a managed tv show. We'll be able to compete with the mainstream media."

5:20pm: Livestream (14,000 viewers now): I just heard some chants of "Let them go, let them go" which means arrests. Also heard someone say "we're just starting to march now, brother" and hear music, drums, horns.
5:10pm: Livestream says "massive marches on the move". Speeches are still apparently going on as well.
- "I want to thank OccupyWallStreet for showing us how to do it... the way to do it is not to talk to politicians... take it to the streets"
5:00pm:
- "Wall street listen to this and listen well: This is not temporary"
- "We are here because of corporate greed... we are the 99%"
- "Unite and fight"
- "Are you ready to march?... Before we leave we're going to have three union leaders... and then we're gonna march"
4:50pm: Livestream:
- President of a health care union: "We're the ones who need a bailout... we're not gonna stop, we're gonna grow
- She introduces local politicians. They get almost no applause.
- "Gotta tax the rich, close the loopholes and hold the elected officials accountable"
From The Guardian:
Union leaders are giving speeches at Foley Square, Paul Harris writes, but adds that it "feels a little dull after seeing the echo mic tactic used by #OccupyWallStreet". Meanwhile Rosie Gray from Village Voice has been on the lookout for elected officials on the march, and so far has spotted: Scott Stringer, Brad Lander, Bill Perkins and Jose Rivera.
4:40pm: Livestream:
- Female speaker says we could close down this city right now. Says "Basta ya -- enough is enough"
- Another female speaker: Has crowd chanting: "It's unfair," "Millionaires who won't pay their taxes -- they're not part of the problem. They are the problem."
- Male speaker has crowd chanting: "Blame Wall Street"
- Scott Summers from UAW: "This city... tried to take it away from us and we took it back... all over the country... people saying 'enough!'... we're gonna go rip their pockets open and take the money back... it's our money... it's our jobs... it's our country, it's not their country... don't give up we will win"
- "This is Cairo, this is Madison... You can't see it brothers and sisters but back up the street they are still streaming in... OccupyWallStreet has started a movement that we are all part of
4:38pm:
4:35pm: From the Guardian:
4.30pm: Paul Harris, at Foley Square:
Charles Jenkins of theTWU 100 union tell crowd; we the people want jobs. Three years after wall street was bailed out, main street is still waiting for it's bailout... Something is wrong in America."
4.25pm: Karen McVeigh writes:
In the pre-march build-up at the park, legal observers from the National Lawyers Guild gave the crowd lessons in their rights and handed out leaflets with advice on what to do if stopped by police or arrested.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/...
4:20pm: Livestream: One camera is with the people marching to Foley Square (some may have arrived already, it will be a very long line of people on the sidewalk about 5-6 across) and the other camera is at Foley Square where a speech is in progress. Almost 12,000 viewers on livestream and growing. Some more screenshots:
4:07pm: Livestream: In the chat stream people are saying "More cowbell!" March continues with drums and cowbell. Some screenshots:
3:53pm: Livestream is showing a large group marching. I see a big address number 253. That is probably 253 Broadway.
3:48pm: Here's a screen capture of a map. So they are making their way to Foley Square right now to meet up with the unions and others who will be marching. Then they will march back. It looks to be less than a mile. Wall Street is very close to Zuccotti Park.
3:47pm: Livestream is not live. Message on the screen says "Live feed coming soon. Our video ninjas are battling gremlins."
3:23pm: From the livestream: Looks like Lorenzo is setting up the second camera in Foley Square. I assume it's Foley Square. Weather looks perfect -- blue sky with big white clouds. The other camera is still at Zuccotti. Lots of people gathering with signs. It looks to be less than a mile march down Broadway to get from Zuccotti Park to Foley Square, passing City Hall along the way.
Okay confirmation that Lorenzo is at Foley Square. There are people marching there already. So far I've heard the most common chants:
"All day all week occupy Wall Street"
"Banks got bailed out. We got sold out"

Elizabeth Warren Blasts Wall Street, Scott Brown In First Massachusetts Senate Debate
"America's middle class has been hammered, squeezed and chipped at for a generation now, and it can't take it much longer," she added. "This is what I work on. This is my life's work. I've done research on it, I've written about it, I've advocated for these families. When we hit a financial crisis I went to Washington to try to work on the bank bailout and bring some transparency and accountability to it," she said.
[ ... ]
Warren also drew applause for her tough talk on Wall Street. "The people on Wall Street broke this country, and they did it one lousy mortgage at a time. It happened more than three years ago, and there has been no real accountability, and there has been no real effort to fix it. That’s why I want to run for the United States Senate," she said.
2:49: Daily Observer:
The Occupy Wall Street Megamarch That’s Happening Today: What’s Slated To Go Down
Foley Square is a small plaza a few blocks from City Hall at the sleepy intersection of Centre and Lafayette St., marked by a fountain, benches, grassy areas and some tall, well-spaced trees. It is arguably less habitable than Zuccotti Park, which features marble benches, tables and halal trucks. From Wikipedia: “Foley Square, which was named after a prominent Tammany Hall district leader and local saloon owner, Thomas F. “Big Tom” Foley (1852–1925), is the site of a number of civic buildings including the classic facades and colonnaded entrances of the 1933-built United States Courthouse.” As of 2:35 p.m., some camera crews are setting up and union workers are testing the P.A. as unsuspecting workers on break peer up curiously from their Kindles. The 3G, we can testify, is O.K.

11:18am: MotherJones: Occupy Wall Street, Powered by Big Labor
In late September major labor unions mostly watched from the sidelines as the Occupy Wall Street protests grew from a ragtag band of diehards camping in a park into a fledgling movement grabbing national headlines and sparking similar protests around the country. Now, Big Labor is going to work: endorsing the protests, offering manpower and resources, and helping stage a major march in New York City's financial district on Wednesday. They are adding organizing muscle, fresh energy, and greater numbers to the boisterous demonstrations that began in downtown Manhattan more than two weeks ago.

Occupy Wall Street: College Students Urged To Walk Out Today
As the Occupy Wall Street protests enter their 19th day and continue to spread well beyond lower Manhattan, there's word from the related "Occupy Colleges" movement that a "nationwide college student walk out" has been called for noon today.
Right now (8 a.m. ET) the website lists 75 colleges where walkouts are expected to happen. The reference to noon is to the local time at each school, the website indicates.
10:15am: This story is from CNN? Seriously?
(CNN) -- Like the spokesmen for Arab dictators feigning bewilderment over protesters' demands, mainstream television news reporters finally training their attention on the growing Occupy Wall Street protest movement seem determined to cast it as the random, silly blather of an ungrateful and lazy generation of weirdos. They couldn't be more wrong and, as time will tell, may eventually be forced to accept the inevitability of their own obsolescence.
9:58am:
Reinforcements to bolster Wall St. protests
(AP) NEW YORK - The protests on Wall Street, the fabled center of American commerce, are expected to swell with reinforcements as more groups head toward lower Manhattan Wednesday.
Among those planning to join the clamor are the liberal group MoveOn.org and community organizations like the Working Families Party and United NY. The growing crowd will also include members of the Chinatown Tenants Union and the Transit Workers Union, signaling that the protest is showing no signs of losing steam. Meanwhile, organizers have called for students at college campuses across the nation to walk out of class in protest at 2 p.m.
