Howdy folks.
This is my first foray on Daily Kos.
I'm an avid (well perhaps fanatic) hockey fan and politically consider myself pretty much a moderate. It changes at times.
Those that follow hockey may get my point. Those that don't may get it as well.
For those that do and those that don't watch hockey each team has six players on the ice at any given time.
Offensively you have a Center, a Left Wing and a Right Wing. Sound familiar?
Furthermore you have a Right Defense and a Left Defense.
Finally you have a Goalie who is pretty much affixed to the center.
Hockey is a fast and free flowing sport. The object of the game it to get the puck into a net guarded by the opposing Goaltender (Goalie).
The Center tends to set up plays and wander more than the other players. They are also expected to be back to aid the defense more in most cases.
The Left and Right wings tend to gravitate more to a side of the rink as assigned but are also free to roam the ice.
The Right and Left defense are expected to keep the puck away from the last line of defense as much as possible. That would be the Goalie.
Defenseman can also jump into offensive plays and, at times, will switch sides while the play is going on to garner a better shot at scoring a goal. This happens with the offensive players as well.
If a defenseman jumps into the offensive play an offense player will jump into the defensive role.
Fighting is allowed in hockey although it is penalized. If a Left winger "goes into the corner" and is cheap shotted by a Right Defenseman oft times a player will come to the aid of the one that was cheap shotted.
In this scenario a Right winger might be involved but instead of beating up the Left winger (his teammate) he would go after the Right defensive player.
Cheap shotting the goalie (last line of defense) can get you beat up by the Left, the Right or both.
NEVER mess with a goalie. I played defense for years both Left and Right.
So as I ramble on here what is my point you might ask.
Simple actually. Hockey has Left, Right and Center. Both teams follow the same rules. Both teams work together as teams to win the game.
In politics it doesn't quite work this way does it? The team is the American people.
