I have to admit that a diary on the recommended page angered me. I agree with the general premise of the Slate article that was quoted:
http://www.slate.com/...
But basic, BASIC factual inaccuracies just infuriate me. Here is the quote (from the Slate article) that got my dander up:
Let me put it this way. Is it just an accident, a coincidence, that in presidential elections ever since 1964, the core states of the Confederacy—Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina—and their hundred or so electoral votes have been solidly Republican?
What is wrong with this statement? More below the fold....
Just the facts:
1968: Hubert Humphrey won Texas; Nixon won South Carolina. Wallace won the other states on the list.
1976: Carter won ALL of the states on the list.
1980: Carter won Georgia.
1992: Clinton won Louisiana and Georgia.
1996: Clinton won Louisiana again.
This does not give me confidence to trust the other so-called "facts" in this article, even if I feel inclined to believe it, as I do here.
Maybe, just maybe, this is why journalists don't fact check: THEY DON'T KNOW THE FACTS!!!!
Grrrrrrrr......
PS: I am no southern apologist; believe me.
