Did you know? Between 1868 and 1908, Ohioans dominated the presidency. Of nine presidents, six were Ohioans, who won eight of 11 elections. Two of the era's non-Ohioans who became president, Chester Arthur and Teddy Roosevelt, took over the office when James Garfield and William McKinley, respectively, were assassinated. Roosevelt's handpicked successor cum rival, William Howard Taft, was the last from this era and he has the distinction of being the only person to serve both as President and Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court.
The last Ohioan elected to our highest office was Warren Harding in 1920 and the guy he defeated, James Cox, was from Ohio, too. (H/t to Cox's selection of a running mate, a fellow by the name of Franklin Delano Roosevelt.)
And for what it's worth, our local paper, the Columbus Dispatch, has endorsed the GOP candidate in every presidential election since 1920.
