Want to learn how to protest peacefully, get noticed and stay safe during the rally [planned at the MI Capitol on Tuesday December 11 from 8:00-3:00]?
That's the teaser I just received from the SEIU to draw my attention to the Civil Disobedience training to be held tomorrow, Saturday, December 8, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the UAW Local 600 (10550 Dix Ave., Dearborn, MI 48120).
It would be helpful if, when you arrive for the training, you can let organizers know if you will be attending the Tuesday demonstration. (Given the behavior of the MI Republicans these past few days, I would guess that the demo planned for Tuesday is not likely to be the last before the end of this legislative session, and hence not the last time these skills would be of use.)
FYI: the Tuesday rally is to convene at the Lansing Center, 333 E Michigan Ave, Lansing, Michigan 48933 starting at 8:00 AM, so that we can all march to the Capitol together.
From another source, I hear that the trainer for tomorrow is nationally respected--and that Bob King has big plans for Tuesday himself.
Here is a FB link at which you can get more information about Tuesday's event and and RSVP for it.
Michigan, we have a proud and strong history of activism. Now is the time to draw upon this part of our heritage. I hope to see you at one or both events!
Sat Dec 08, 2012 at 1:21 PM PT: Very, very interesting and productive training today. I will be AFK for about 24 hours but tomorrow evening I hope to write up some of the highlights--the words of inspiration and solidarity--that will be appropriate to share.
Meanwhile, please do keep on using this diary as a platform, unless another one appears to keep the momentum going.
