Yes, we knew this was coming didn't we. Seems like no one likes the SCOTUS like they used to according to the NYTimes.
ADAM LIPTAK and ALLISON KOPICKI write about a poll conducted my CBS News
WASHINGTON — Just 44 percent of Americans approve of the job the Supreme Court is doing and three-quarters say the justices’ decisions are sometimes influenced by their personal or political views, according to a poll conducted by The New York Times and CBS News.
They pointed out that in the 1980's the approval rating was as high as sixty six percent, and even around the turn of the century it hovered around fifty percent range.
LIPTAK and KOPICKI state the it may be because people think the court is now more political.
One thing that SCOTUS can point to is that at least their still more liked than the US Congress which is around fifteen percent right now.
They point out that Liberals and Conservatives both seem to dislike the court equally as much so no matter which way the rule on issues currently before them I doubt the approval rating will shift a lot. Just the people who like or dislike them will probably shift. I could be wrong on this but I will be checking for polls after this years cases are announced.
The poll was only based on about a thousand folks.
The nationwide poll is based on telephone interviews with 976 adults conducted May 31 through June 3 on landlines and cellphones and has a margin-of-sampling error of plus or minus three percentage points.
So it is small number of people and a short period of time but I think it is interesting to note the change in results.
