I'm glad the latest Daily Kos update is going back to limiting users to one diary in a 24 hour period.
I'm reading some nasty and unneccessary comments and commentary with regards to subjects that we disagree on in various degrees. It is starting to turn into a milder version of what the GOP does to itself.
Can we be passionate and intelligent in presenting our views and still be at least polite to each other? Can we argue other sides of the issues without dismissing everything that person or persons' contributions. To my mind, that is what separates us from the insane right wing. Tearing anyone up who doesn't agree with you 100% is the new norm it seems and we seem to be falling into that purity trap.
I watched Markos make a comment several years ago about how hard it is to get Progressives to agree on ideas and solutions much less the other guys. And he is right. So can we at least be polite whether we agree or not. Can we at least listen as much as we talk? As a side benefit, it would make it easier to weed out the trolls and such.
Thanks for listening.
2:30 PM PT: Correction:
Well, I have just been corrected on the one diary a day. I was reading too fast and missed that it was based on a Snarky diary and probably a little bit of wishful thinking on my part.
2:39 PM PT: Hmm, the poll has some interesting results. I remember a segment on The Rachael Maddow show where she was explaining the merits of debate and how it was good to be pushed out of your comfort zone. Debating forces you to defend your position, but also to test your theories and defend them again. Ideological purity is staying within your comfort boundaries and not having to think too much on how you came to your conclusions. Or have to adjust to changes of circumstances.
