My husband received his graduate degree, all expenses paid, from Purdue University. His letter to the Purdue University Foundation today was:
Dear Sirs:
I regret to inform you that my annual gifts to Purdue University shall cease so long as the heinous bill passed by the Indiana Legislature and signed by Governor Pence remains
in effect. I cannot in good conscience sanction support of any activity in the state of Indiana. I strongly urge President Daniels and the University to do their utmost to have this horrible legislation repealed.
I deeply regret taking this action. Due to Purdue University’s support, I was able to obtain degrees that later led to a long and prosperous working career, and would like to increasingly repay the University for what it did for me. Although there is some disconnect between the University and the State of Indiana, I am hoping enough donors will take similar action to ensure that the University puts pressure on the Legislature to repeal its Unamerican bill. If you would forward this to the Agronomy Department, I should be grateful.
With all good wishes,
My husband was disgusted by Mike Pence’s homophobic legislation that he signed behind closed doors the "Religious Freedom Restoration Act”.
Mitch Daniels, former Governor of Indiana is currently president of Purdue and has been part of the Republican power structure for some time.
It is time for Daniels to take some responsibility in dealing with the homophobic governor.
I hope other Boilermakers here follow my husband’s lead on this.
Thanks for reading.
