Francois Hollande, President of France.

In a speech Friday afternoon, French President Francois Hollande confirmed that four people were killed in the day's supermarket attack. He also made an effort to console the country after multiple hostage situations.
Hollande condemned the attack on a Jewish store, calling it "a dreadful anti-Semitic act." He also praised France's police force for their "bravery and efficiency" in responding to the day's events.
The president also emphasized the fact that the gunmen were "fanatics" and don't represent the Muslim faith as a whole. Hollande added that the French people "mustn't be divided."
Hollande did the right thing here. It is important both to emphasize that Muslims and Islam are not collectively responsible for the actions of a few vicious murderers, and to emphasize that these murderers did, in addition to targeting
Charlie Hebdo, also target a visibly Jewish institution in an act of violent anti-semitism, a hate crime. The massacre in Paris included both an attack on freedom as an idea, and on Jews as people.
