As we march faster and faster toward the point of no return (or past it?) we certainly need to drill for and burn more oil! Why criticize this bold step forward? After all we democrats need to stick together don't we?
Meanwhile the climate propagandists are putting out this stuff:Study: We’re Already In The ‘Worst Case Scenario’ For Sea Level Rise
Recent studies have shown that both the Greenland ice sheet and West Antarctic Ice Sheet have seen massive increases in ice loss in just the past five years. The rates of losses far exceed even those imagined a few years ago. Furthermore, there is evidence that the West Antarctic Ice Sheet has begun an irreversible process of collapse, in part because it is melting from underneath.
For now the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets are contributing less than a millimeter a year to sea level rise, but they have the potential to add 20 feet and 200 feet to ocean levels, respectively, if greenhouse gas emissions continue to rise unabated. The higher greenhouse gas emissions get, the more Arctic sea ice melts, which allows the oceans to gather more heat. Dwindling sea ice in the Arctic Ocean creates large areas of relatively dark ocean surface that reduce the albedo, or reflectivity, of the polar region. More open water causes the Earth to absorb more of the sun’s solar energy rather than reflect it back into the atmosphere.
As the temperature warms in the Arctic regions, more permafrost also melts, thus adding to the greenhouses gases already in the atmosphere and eventually turning the Arctic from a carbon sink to a carbon source. It has been estimated that defrosting permafrost could add up to 1.5°F to total global warming by 2100. Permafrost covers nearly a quarter of the land surface of the northern hemisphere.
So please do not heed the advice of the people here who are telling us that we should leave the site if we don't like things the democratic party is doing for us. Read on below for I have thoughts that pertain to the future of this party and the role of blind followers in bringing us closer to the end of life as we know it on this fine planet.
I won't leave the site as I was told to today. I am here to try to do something to bring sanity back. What the president did today is not sane in my way of thinking. That's bad enough but to see so many cheering him for all the other good things he did shows me a kind of failure to understand reports like the one cited above.
Lists of accomplishments may be very nice but some sense of relative importance would be nice to see. It is not a joke that we need to leave ALL the rest of the fossil fuels in the ground. It is no joke that every drop or bit we burn makes things worse. It is no joke that there is no issue more important than this.
For people to say that other accomplishments somehow negate the terrible effect of today's decision is to miss the point totally. For people to play thought police because someone says the word "third party" in their anguish about the horror we face is just criminal in my mind.
Where is the sense of urgency? When will the massive denial within the democratic party be over? Do you not realize that the outcome of the 2016 election may be announced at a time when we will have crossed many more lines that mark our demise because they mark irreversible changes in the planet?
I am 79 and fighting cancer. I won't be here to see it all happen. I'll be fortunate to see what happens in this election.
Today is a dark day for me. Maybe it is coupled with anticipating going for a treatment tomorrow since last week's was not as good as I had hoped. It was made darker by the discovery of people here who seem to be more concerned about their beloved party than they are about the planet.
Today Obama did something very bad. The drilling decision is bad. What is far worse and seems to be missed by almost everyone is the way he set us back in our very difficult struggle against the oligarchy and its fossil fuel rampage. Using the "bully pulpit" to preach the merits if drilling in a place that should never even been considered for that purpose is thousands of times worse than any consequences of the drilling itself.
What DOES the democratic party stand for? Where is its conscience? This is the vindication of Helen Keller and all those in the past who warned us that the difference between the parties is a small difference between very large quantities of evil.
Purge the party of those of us who are crying out for sanity. See where that goes. You need us more than ever for you are either blind or without conscience or both. Wake up please. There is no longer time for the luxury of denial. The "worse case scenario" predicted is about to be exceeded. Do you not yet realize that scientific predictions have all been off in the wrong direction for some time now? The reasons are many but the evidence is clear.
We really do not need a weatherman to tell us which way the wind is blowing.
