After meeting with the people at my local Career Source location, I’m not sure whether to laugh or vomit. Sure, my sanctions on SNAP were lifted a few days beforehand, but that’s beside the point. DCF actually expects you to have 80 hours of participation a month. Think about this for a second. This includes looking for jobs, which you need to have 39 hours accounted for, be it filling out applications, interviews or on-site visits. The other 41 hours? ‘Education’...don’t get me started.
It doesn’t seem to matter to DCF that I’ve been working with Voc Rehab and other disability services for years, or that I have 2 degrees, or that I do bust my ass to find a job and work with archiving photos and video on the side, but now I have to do things through Career Source as well, as if trying to find a job isn’t hard enough already.
To their credit, they do allow for OJT situations which usually lead to people being hired and according to the lady I talked to, they’re pretty strict about that sort of thing, as they should be. You wouldn’t want to work in a situation where no one intends to hire you. I’ve had that happen more than once and it sure does get tiresome. Not to mention a lot of places look for a way out when it comes to hiring skilled or educated workers. Just read your average job posting and you’ll see what I mean.
I’ll keep posting as more comes up.
See you around,
Homer
