Sigh. You know, Facebook is like that horrible crime scene you don’t want to pay any attention to, yet you can’t look away.
Remember that guy I’ve been talking to on Facebook? You know, my mom’s significant other? Whelp...he’s a Trump supporter. I suppose I shouldn’t be all that surprised given he admitted he listens to right-wing hate radio, but these comments speak for themselves. My responses to these comments will be in bold. As you will see further down, the gloves have now come off, at least for me anyway.
“And once again a minimum wage job is a starting point. why would anyone aspire to grow if they are if the provided free medical, housing, food, daycare”
Affordable doesn't mean free. Stop with the false equivalencies already. In case you haven't figured it out, it's literally impossible for minimum wage workers to get ahead these days. And believe it or not, that's how employers like it. We're literally disposable to them. You have no idea how easily you could end up in that position, so if I were you, I wouldn't be so quick to judge them.
I should also point out that people wouldn't be borrowing so much if wages hadn't been suppressed over the past 4 decades. You're either not paying attention or you just don't give a shit. Judging by our conversations I can safely say it's the latter. Just remember that when the guy at the bottom has his wages suppressed, yours are suppressed right along with his.
" If people were more responsible and not enabled which is exactly what the Democratic Party has created"
That is also a crock propped up by right-wing media, particularly by talk radio pundits who have likely never done an actual day's work in their lives. I've seen you literally cut and paste every single talking point they repeat again and again. None of them have a grain of substance, and none of them will ever acknowledge the elephant in the room.
"This country is based on capitalism any smuck can sit there and earn a wage and bitch about how bad they have it....It takes balls and perseverance to make a company and employee people.."
It also takes connections, people and infrastructure. Loyalty to employees certainly wouldn't hurt either. Without those any company is doomed to fail out of the gate, unless your last name is Walton.
" If people don't like the station they are in then they need to make changes and this country allows anyone to do it. No other country does"
Denmark would like to have a few words with you. As would Norway, Sweden, Iceland, and Germany. Those countries are quite a bit happier precisely because they have more opportunities than they ever will here.
"You have accomplished a lot and none of my comments include you"
I'd like to believe you, but considering you refuse to understand the challenges my generation faces thanks to decades of bad policies here and abroad I simply can't.
"Listen you need to get off the fact that you think I'm not a fan of yours .... I am"
Like I said, I don't believe you. And the fact that you would even consider supporting Trump speaks volumes. He's gone out of his way to be a complete asshole to virtually everyone, people with disabilities included. The fact that he made people swear fealty to him at a rally this past weekend is particularly telling. Not to mention at the last Republican debate they were acting like children screaming at each other on the school yard. I don't think voters want to sit and listen to a genitalia measuring contest either. Or perhaps they do with the way our politics have gone the way of the grocery store tabloid. Sad, isn't it?
Based on the way he's carried himself throughout his entire campaign, it's safe to say that if Trump didn't inherit the money or the infrastructure that came with it, he'd be flipping burgers or he'd be in jail.
"Your generation is lazy.... I talk to many in your generation and mostly what I hear is they think they deserve more with out putting the time in to get more
I have not cut and pasted one talking point.... My opinions are mine alone because a radio show has similar thoughts doesn't mean I copied them
You know everyone wants to thinks trump was given a free ride because his dad loaned him a mil.... There are lots of people who get wealthy via old family money or the lotto and they squander it.... Trump used his money to make money made deals and employs a great many people.... And you don't hear them bitching and they would despite what what the dems would have you believe
There are great many people who have not worked a hard days work .... I am not one of them.... Trump also works hard .... Connections help but they come from perseverance and hard work .... I have connections not many but they are all earned .... Trumps are the same "
Most people start out thinking that way when they're young. I speak from experience and I've had a very long time to develop and think about my positions. This laziness you speak of isn't exclusive to my generation anymore than pissing away what makes a country great is exclusive to yours.
And you're right, you don't know what other countries are like, and this statement proves it:
"Finally socialist countries have top leaders who make/take all the wealth and dole it out all the while making the people under them believe they have a great life. Their needs are taking care so they need nothing more .... "
You benefited from a system that actually wasn't so different from many of those countries. It was your generation that decided to piss it all away. My generation will be stuck repairing the damage yours continues to do for decades, if the planet is still habitable anyway.
" Unlike here where if you work hard and persevere you can attain greatness"
And if hard work meant anything, every woman in Africa would be a billionaire.
Read this again.
"Finally socialist countries have top leaders who make/take all the wealth and dole it out all the while making the people under them believe they have a great life. Their needs are taking care so they need nothing more .... "
" Unlike here where if you work hard and persevere you can attain greatness"
Greatness? Just what the hell is that anyway? And why is it that so many conservatives look to billionaires like Trump for success when they are complete and utter social failures? I mean, sure, he has a ton of money that his investors, accountants and other infrastructure made for him, but this is a guy who has stated flat out he’d fuck his own daughter if he had the opportunity. He’s had to declare bankruptcy at least three times that I know about. He’s literally advocating mirroring the worst policies from the worst governments in world history.
If that’s what passes for greatness, I’ll gladly pass on that and be a ‘mediocre socialist’ instead. After all, as the Scandinavian nations show us time after time, it can’t be all that bad, they at least allow people to be real human beings. I wonder what Lee Atwater would think now that his Southern Strategy has nearly reached its logical conclusion?
Now that I’m done with the serious shit, I’ll leave some funny Simpsons clips that also illustrate my points. It’s sad that over 20 years later, they’re still relevant.
See you around,
Homer
