I’ve deliberately stayed out of the primary discussions. After reading the news tonight — I really have to say something: It is true that history is being made, and I look forward to an entire general election season as an opportunity to talk about that. Today, I want to talk about something else…
Today isn’t about Bernie, and whether or not he should concede. It isn’t about Hillary, either — she had her moment last night. Today is about Bernie supporters and what they’ve accomplished during this race. Pander? Hardly.
Sanders’ campaign accomplished a number of things that Democrats have to think about deeply. The rush of young people who swept into the party would not have done so if Sanders wasn’t speaking to their needs, their hopes, and their dreams. If the party wants to keep the young peoples’ feet on the ground long enough to achieve those dreams, today has to be about them.
Set aside the critical thought and frustrations of the day. Sit back and listen to what these young people have to say. They are the future, and we need to hear them.
