It’s been three weeks since my kidney transplant. I’ve been feeling better each day. I’m taking longer walks. (I’m up to about a half-mile every day.) At 8:00 am today, in-person early voting began in Wisconsin. By about nine Mrs ruleoflaw and I had voted. All Blue , but you knew that.
This was one of my recovery goals. Check that one off.
Yesterday I had my first follow-up appointment since the surgery. All went well. My labs looked good and my incisions are healing nicely. Before the transplant, my GFR (a number between zero and 100 that measures kidney function) was 4 with a sky-high creatinine level. Very bad.
Yesterday’s labs showed a GFR of 75, an improvement of 71 points. My creatinine level was the lowest I’d ever had; solid normal. My daughter grows a mighty good kidney.
I am getting well.
I am deeply grateful for all the support and love I’ve been shown throughout this process. Sometimes “thoughts and prayers” and “positive energy” seem paltry, but I appreciate them nonetheless. If you feel moved to do more check out these links:
Donations to support Transplant, Organ and Tissue donation services are gladly accepted here.
If you are feeling especially saintly, you might even consider becoming a living kidney donor.
Get out and vote blue people! Our lives depend on it!
