Water Of and In
The water is in you. You are of the water
You are in the water, even when you’re not.
Water and gravity always win.
No exceptions, no matter what.
You can and you must use water
But you cannot own it.
Like the minutes of your life, the water in your tissues is borrowed and spent.
The Earth will someday call in your account.
If your water is out of balance, if the plumbing in your body is faulty,
Your account may close sooner than expected.
You might even need to have something replaced.
I did.
It is really uncomfortable at first, but it gets way, way, better.

It’s been five months and change since I had my kidney transplant.
Two months since I went back to work.
I feel normal.
Normal.
I don’t get exhausted from walking up a flight of stairs or swell up like a bag of jello.
I don’t have to spend the night hooked up to a machine.
My legs and hands don’t suddenly go into cramps and spasms.
My mouth doesn’t taste like piss.
I don’t itch all over.
I can breath, eat, keep food down, maintain a steady healthy weight, I can have a beer or glass of wine now and then. I can eat most of the things I like, in moderation. I can go to work all day. I can take a walk. I can play with the dog. I can do all of these things, like normal.
My wife can just be my wife and never have to touch another hypodermic syringe.
We can just be normal.
Normal.
