No, I don’t love her either. No, I would much rather have Ms. Nancy leading the lower chamber. But let’s face the facts, it’s looking pretty likely Republicans will have a slim majority in the new House.
What to do, when it’s out of our hands? Why, I’m glad you asked. I’m mostly inclined to sit back and watch the Republican civil war, with McCarthy groveling for votes with an implacable caucus. They should charge admission for the show. But, assuming Kev Kev can pull off a coalition, they will have chairmanships and subcommittees to cause havoc with.
If only we had some patriot who could siphon off the 5-10 Republican votes necessary and caucus with Dems! You know, that mythical, endangered species, the Republican dedicated to democracy? Hmmm, like Liz Cheney?
No wait wait now, this is just a thought exercise, don’t get your pitchforks and tiki torches out after me yet. If you thought it’d be fun to watch Kev Kev grovel, imagine how much fun it would be to deny him the speakership entirely, and simultaneously prevent trash Benghazi styled investigations and likely impeachment that the hardcore part of the Republican caucus wants? It would be F#$&*ing delicious.
As with any thought exercise, eventually we must face reality that it’s extremely unlikely. I certainly won’t be placing any bets. Dems would have to make huge concessions to a splinter faction of the Republican caucus, and that’s a very bitter pill to swallow. And can even Liz Cheney dig up 5 votes in this caucus to combine with Dems? With both her and Kinzinger leaving the House, I’m not sure there’s anyone left to vote for her.
But if we look to the last civil war, this concept is somewhat similar to what Lincoln did with the short-lived Union Party. And Liz is going to be out of a job in a couple months. As we have been told repeatedly, there’s nothing to say the speaker must be a member of the house. So why not dream big?
Liz Cheney for Speaker!?!? Sure why not throw some fuel on the fire that’s burning the Republican caucus down.
